Along with Christmas time comes many family traditions. For me, baking Christmas cookies brings back precious family memories- and makes new ones each year!
As I prepare for the annual day of baking with my daughters, Bailey and Morgan, I remember when my sister Karen and I were their age baking in Grandma Stella’s kitchen with my mom. The sweet smell of cookie dough filled the air (and me with excitement) as I waited while the cookies were prepped and baked. Then it would be mine and Karen’s turn to sprinkle and decorate the cookies. One of my favorite things to do was put Red Hot candies on the wreath cookies right when they came out of the oven. Oh how we looked forward to that!
I think every child loves baking with their parent. Now I have the joy of passing down my family’s delicious recipes to my girls. Luckily, I acquired my grandma’s and mom’s patience! Huge messes in the kitchen can get overwhelming, but I’ve learned that the best thing to do is laugh it off. Little things like that make the memories invaluable.
Two of my family’s favorites are cut-out and thumb-print cookies. My mother-in-law Jean Thompson makes the BEST ones. Her recipe for Reindeer cookies, which are made from her cut-out dough, was even published in one of Twin Sister Productions’ books.
I hope you and your family enjoy this adorable recipe! And please share your family’s favorites in my comment box below. Merry Christmas everyone!
